In recent years, the Polish national football team has played only two of its home qualifying matches outside the National Stadium. The Meczyki.pl website suggests that these statistics may soon change significantly.
The Polish national team will play its next home matches away from PGE Narodowy. This information was obtained by Tomasz Włodarczyk from the website Meczyki.pl. As he explained, the reason for the decision was the high rental prices of the facility.
Will PZPN move the national team from PGE Narodowy?
Włodarczyk claims that renting the National Stadium for Polish national team matches cost about one million zlotys, and the owner of the facility has recently drastically increased its price requirements. We read on Meczyki.pl that twice the amount was requested.
The National Stadium, built for Euro 2012, was the symbolic home of the Polish national football team. Over the years, only two matches for qualifying points in major tournaments have not been held there. Once it was in a match against Moldova in Wrocław and once against Andorra in Warsaw, at the Legia stadium.
The National Stadium was called the stronghold of the Polish national team for a long time because our team recorded very favorable results there. From March 2013 to November 2021, she did not lose a single competitive match there. Foreign teams waited 8 years to win the National Championship.
The new facility of the Polish national football team
Now, however, the Polish national team would play its matches at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów. On March 21, they will play there against Lithuania, and three days later against Malta. They will host Finland on September 7, and the Netherlands or Spain on November 14 – depending on the results of the Nations League play-offs. The above-mentioned matches will count towards advancing to the next world championship.
The next meeting of the board of the Polish Football Association is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14. Then we can expect official confirmation of the reports that PZPN has abandoned the National Stadium. Meczyki.pl claim that all the necessary documents were signed with the managers of the Silesian Stadium on Monday.
