More than 2 million houses without sewage systems may be subject to inspections. Owners must have documents regarding waste disposal.

More than 2 million houses in Poland are not connected to the sewage network. These properties use septic tanks, and the method of waste disposal is subject to control. Owners must be prepared to provide documents confirming regular exports.

The inspectors’ visit does not always have to be announced in advance. However, individual local governments maintain their own schedules for checking documentation, so the method and dates of inspections may vary depending on the municipality.

Septic tank inspections. You need to have two documents

The owner of a house using a septic tank should first of all have a waste disposal contract concluded with a septic tank company. But that’s not all.

The second type of documents required are bills confirming payment for regularly performed waste disposal services. During the inspection, the owner should therefore be able to demonstrate both the conclusion of the contract and the actual use of the services.

The commune will also check the records

The duties of local government are not limited to verifying contracts and bills. Municipalities are also to check whether the owners have registered the septic tank or home sewage treatment plant.

Control does not have to be the same everywhere. According to Interia Biznes after the daily “Fakt”, residents of the Szczekociny commune received information that checking documents regarding waste disposal is to last from October 2026 to August 2028.

Home inspection or summons to the office

A different solution was used in the Niegosławice commune. There, owners of properties equipped with septic tanks receive individual notices to the office. During such a visit, they must present the required documents.

This means that verification does not always have to take place directly on the property. The specific form of checking documentation depends on the actions taken by a given local government.

Fine up to PLN 5,000. PLN, and in extreme cases even PLN 50,000. zloty

Failure to provide the required documentation may have serious financial consequences. According to the information quoted in the material, it may result in a court fine of up to PLN 5,000. zloty.

Even higher sanctions are provided for gross violations of the regulations. In such a situation, the fine may reach up to PLN 50,000. zloty. Therefore, owners of houses using septic tanks should, first of all, ensure that they have a contract with a septic tanker, bills for waste disposal and that the tank is registered in the register kept by the commune.
