Insomnia of Poles costs. The economy loses billions of tired employees

Four out of ten Poles complain of insomnia. This is a significant problem for employers. Losses related to this are estimated at around PLN 8 billion a year.

41.4 percent Poles are not satisfied with the quality of their dream – writes Piątkowa “Rzeczpospolita” citing a study conducted by Uce Research and the Psychotherapy Platform Epsycholży.pl. Similar results oscillating between 40 and 50 percent They have remained for years.

Poles indicate several main reasons for sleep problems

Psychologist Michał Murgrabia, president of the Platform Epsycholży.pl, cited by the daily, notes that the sources of stress are varied and may come from professional pressure, from the family situation, or even from the general sense of overloading of duties and lack of time for rest. – Chronic tension makes it difficult to fall asleep, causes more frequent waking and means that sleep does not have a regenerative function – explains the psychologist.

The respondents as the main reasons for their problems with falling asleep indicate stress, race or abuse of phones. There are also numerous concerns about the future, which is indicated by every third respondent. – This is a very clear social signal. We live in time of economic, geopolitical and climate uncertainty and it implies a mark on our sense of security – comments Murgrabia.

The thread of abuse of phone calls is also imperceptible. – Excessive use of social media is a growing civilization problem, which will deepen with increasingly common access to smartphones and remote work – says Rzeczpospolita Dr. Kinga Stopczyńska from the Department of Marketing of the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz.

The economy loses about PLN 8 billion on sleepy employees

This is not the only study cited by the “Rzeczpospolita”, which indicates a huge problem resulting from insomnia. Others indicate that insufficient sleep increases the risk of mortality by up to 13 percent.

The epsycholodzy.pl platform estimates that due to the insomnia of Poles, the losses for our economy are about PLN 8 billion a year. What’s more, these calculations do not include either the costs of replacing employees, including recruitment processes, or lost benefits related to the departure of customers.
