InPost to install new machines. They won't be parcel lockers

In recent years, parcel lockers have sprouted in every Polish city like mushrooms after rain. The industry leader, InPost, intends to introduce another service. This is the result of regulations that will come into force at the beginning of 2025. There will be new machines, but it is not about parcel lockers.

InPost in numbers

InPost has been operating in Poland since 2006. Initially, the company offered traditional courier services, but quickly began to develop a network of parcel lockers, which turned out to be a key element of its success. InPost had over 28,000 parcel lockers at the end of 2023. The company is constantly developing its infrastructure, responding to the growing demand related to e-commerce and the convenience of delivering parcels to parcel lockers. Thanks to its dynamic development, InPost has become one of the leaders in parcel logistics in Poland and Europe.

Will they install bottle vending machines?

Specifically, we are talking about RVMs (reverse-vending machines), to which plastic and glass bottles, as well as aluminum cans, can be returned. Tests of these devices have already begun, and in 2025 it is to be a common phenomenon throughout the country.

It is worth noting that such machines are already popular in many European countries. They can be found in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Lithuania. Interestingly, in small Lithuania, about 90 percent of packaging is returned using RVM machines.

It will be worth donating bottles and cans

Due to the deposit system, which will be introduced from January 1, 2025. Deposits will cover cans up to 1000 ml, glass bottles up to 1500 ml, and disposable plastic bottles up to 3000 ml. For each returned package, we will get PLN 0.50 or PLN 1.

Where will these machines be?

Large-scale stores (over 200 square meters) will be legally obliged to collect packaging, so it can be assumed that RVM machines will be most common in such places. A pilot program is already underway, in cooperation with Carrefour and the operator of the deposit system PolKa. Customers returning bottles receive special discount vouchers for the store.
