ING warns: Don’t be fooled by investments with celebrities

ING Bank Śląski

ING warns against dangerous investment fraud. Read the bank’s message before it is too late – it’s about the security of your money.

ING Bank Śląski has published an important message regarding the financial security of its clients. The bank calls to read the warning as soon as possible, because it concerns the risk of losing funds from the account. Although the message is addressed to ING customers, the threat may apply to any internet user with a bank account.

Fake ads

Recently, the bank has noticed intensified activities of cybercriminals who publish false investment ads on the network. Fraudsters use known faces – celebrities, athletes and even politicians – creating crafted recordings and statements using specialized tools. Their goal is to inspire trust and persuade victims to take advantage of the fictitious investment offer.

After leaving contact details, the person claiming to be an investment advisor makes contact with a potential victim. He urges to make the first transfer, usually for a small amount. After the alleged “investment success”, the customer is encouraged to further payments. Ultimately, it loses money and no investment exists.

Bank ING emphasizes that criminals also often ask you to install software for a remote desktop, such as TeamViewer or Anydesk. This is supposed to improve your account support, but in reality it allows fraudsters to take full control over the victim’s device and access to its resources.

How to protect yourself?

To protect yourself from fraud, ING reminds you of the basic precautions: you must not transfer money to unknown people, install any applications at their request, or provide login data, document scans or card numbers.

The bank reminds that fast and easy profits are usually fiction. People interested in investing should each time verify the company with which they plan cooperation, checking the opinions and how to act.
