Important message for tourists. Major difficulties in the national park
All gorges in Slovak Paradise are closed until further notice. According to HZS, this is necessary for the safety of visitors.
Difficult conditions prevail on the trails in Slovak Paradise. According to the Horská záchranná service, in accordance with the decision of the area administration, all gorges in the popular national park have been temporarily closed. The reason for such actions is high water levels caused by heavy rains. These are very dangerous conditions, conducive to serious accidents on narrow and steep passages.
The Slovak Paradise closes the gorges. It’s too dangerous
Recent days have brought heavy rains in Slovakia. In such weather, not only high-mountain trips are dangerous, but also crossing steep slopes of ravines. The Horská záchranná služba together with the administrator of the Slovak Paradise decided to close the trails in the gorges until further notice. In such conditions, it is easy to have an accident – flooded footbridges, slippery chains or landslides can be extremely dangerous even for very experienced tourists.
The most famous gorges in the Slovak Paradise are Suchá Belá, which leads to the Misové waterfalls, and the Hornád Gorge, a trail running along the bottom of the river canyon. The longest gorge in the Slovak Paradise is Veľký Sokol. considered one of the wildest in the entire national park.
Serious difficulties in the Tatra Mountains
Serious difficulties also occur in the Tatra Mountains. As we read on the website of the Tatra National Park, due to intense rainfall, local flooding may occur. The forest sections are very wet and muddy, and there is still a fresh layer of snow above the upper forest boundary. Many trails are very slippery. “When going to the higher parts of the Tatra Mountains, you must have experience in winter mountain tourism and appropriate winter equipment (crampons, ice ax, helmet, avalanche ABC) and the ability to operate it,” we read. Going to the higher parts of the Tatra Mountains is not recommended under current conditions.
