Iga Świątek’s show in the colors of the Polish national team. It was a hit against the wall!
In two quick sets, Iga Światek defeated New Zealand’s Elyse Tse in the Billie Jean King Cup match. Polish fans were delighted with the champion’s form.
Before Iga Świątek appeared on the court in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Katarzyna Kawa recorded an important victory in the first match of the Poland-New Zealand match. The most experienced player in the national team, looking at her experience, defeated Vivian Yang in two sets 6:4, 6:4.
The New Zealander set difficult conditions, and there was also a little stress due to such great interest from Polish fans, but in the end Kawa managed to win.
Billie Jean King Cup: Iga Świątek’s show of strength. Poland prevails over New Zealand
In the context of Kawa, there may have been a slight stress, but the atmosphere in the stands of the arena in Gorzów Wielkopolski clearly had a motivating effect on Iga Świątek. The runner-up in the WTA ranking represents Poland again, thus closing her demanding 2025 season. The Pole played against Elyse Tse, who is only 21 years old. The New Zealander is currently the player ranked number 909 in the WTA ranking.
The question was not whether the Pole would win, but – with respect to Świątek’s opponent – how many games the opponent of the world’s second racket would be able to steal. As it turned out, Świątek’s form did not allow Tse to do much. Apart from individual actions, the New Zealand tennis player could only praise the tennis lesson she received. Although, to be fair, after losing the first set 0-6 in just 20 minutes, it seemed that there might also be an execution in the second set.
However, Tse managed to win an honorary game and did not hide her joy.
But that was all, Świątek ultimately won 6:0, 6:1, thus sealing the Polish team’s victory over New Zealand in the entire match. The BJKC competition system consists of two singles matches and one doubles match. A lead of 2:0 guarantees victory in the entire competition.
Linda Klimovicova / Martyna Kubka – Jade Otway / Erin Routliffe will play in the doubles.
The Polish women will return to the game on Sunday (i.e. November 16). They will then face Romania. The day before, the Romanians will face New Zealand. At stake is the three-day Group B play-off tournament for advancement to the qualifications for the BJK Cup Finals 2026 in Shenzhen.
All matches will be shown on Polsat Sport and the Polsat Box Go online platform.
