Iga Świątek’s shocking confession! “This situation broke my heart”
Iga Świątek decided to make a special confession regarding the positive anti-doping test from September 2024.
The Polish tennis player published a long recording on social media.
“Finally I can… and that’s why I’m immediately sharing with you the hardest experience of my life. Over the last 2.5 months, I submitted to strict proceedings by the ITIA agency, which confirmed my innocence. The only positive doping test of my career, with an incredibly low concentration of a banned substance I had never heard of before, called into question everything I had worked for my entire life. And me and my entire team faced enormous stress and anxiety. Everything was carefully explained, and I can return to what I love most with a clean slate and I know that I will be stronger now than ever. I leave you a long video and today I also feel relieved that it’s over. I want to be honest with you and although I know I didn’t do anything wrong, out of respect for the fans and the public opinion, I am sharing all the details of this longest and most difficult tournament of my career. I hope as much as possible that you will stay with me,” the former world ranking leader wrote in a long post on Instagram.
The whole situation, fortunately for the Polish tennis player, ended happily. Although it is a fact, it was burdened with a lot of emotions, which Świątek described in detail in the recording.
Iga Świątek suspended! Polish woman cleared of doping charges
It is worth recalling that after the US Open Grand Slam, the Polish tennis player did not play in the next tournaments in which she was originally supposed to take part. The situation has therefore been clarified. The prohibited substance detected in the Polish woman’s body was contaminated melatonin – which the Polish woman uses almost all the time.
Świątek returned to the game only at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, which closed the tennis calendar. Additionally, the Pole also played for the Polish national team during the Billie Jean King Cup, where the team ultimately reached the historic semi-final of the event.
– Generally, on September 12, I learned about the positive result of the anti-doping test. From a sample taken on August 12, i.e. before the tournament in Cincinatti. It was a huge blow to me, I was in shock. This situation made me very anxious (…) From then on, I was automatically suspended and I couldn’t defend my ranking. Although it is known that this is a consequence of this situation, it is not the most important issue in this situation. The most important thing was to prove his innocence. Now that this case is over, I have been given a symbolic one-month suspension. Eight days behind me, 22 ahead of me. I will be able to start the next season with a clean slate. This experience is the most difficult in my life, but it also taught me a lot (…) The whole situation broke my heart. There was a lot of crying and sleepless nights, admitted Świątek.
