Iga Świątek's former coach surprised with his opinion. This is how he summed up her performance at the US Open

Iga Świątek ended her US Open 2024 adventure in the quarterfinals. According to her former coach, the WTA ranking leader may feel dissatisfied, but she shouldn’t talk about disappointment.

Iga Świątek can watch the fight for victory in the last Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 season from the perspective of a spectator. Her most dangerous rival Aryna Sabalenka will fight for the prestigious triumph in the US Open, as well as her conqueror from the quarterfinals Jessica Pegula. Although the Pole still has a very large advantage in the WTA ranking over the second Belarusian, this victory will certainly give her a lot of confidence before the end of the struggle.

Iga Świątek’s former coach summed up her performance at the US Open

Świątek had matches during the tournament in which she gave no chance to her rivals. She made a lot of mistakes in the clash with Pegula. After the match, she blamed herself for the defeat. The Polish player’s season is not over yet, although she will probably need some time to refocus on competing on the Tour. As every year, the competition ends with the WTA Finals. Raszynianka has not had to worry about the right to start for a long time. A great middle of the season has meant that she can only observe who she will be able to face in the Arab Riyadh.

Fans are still discussing the reason for the Pole’s poor performance in the US Open quarterfinals. Iga Świątek’s first coach was also asked about her opinion. In an interview with TVP Sport, Artur Szostaczko stated that his former player did not play a good tournament, but she should not consider the quarterfinals as a disappointment.

– She can definitely feel dissatisfied, but on the other hand, this tournament was not good for Iga at all. I said that her form would be verified in the second week. In my opinion, it was clear that her form was unstable. For Iga, it is certainly not a disappointment, but she will feel dissatisfied. I will not mention that she is the “number one” in the world, but she is always one of the favorites to win the Grand Slam. In tennis, the most important thing is to be humble and know how to lose – said the coach.

Iga Świątek will fight to maintain the position of the leader of the WTA ranking

Artur Szostaczko also added that he wishes her continued good health, although he adds: Sooner or later, Świątek will probably suffer an injury as well.

Iga Świątek currently leads the WTA rankings with 10,085 points.
