Let him who slept repent! This is how you can describe the level of emotion achieved by the semi-final battle between Iga Świątek and Elina Svitolina. The Pole ultimately turned out to be better than the Ukrainian, but the match itself was decided in three sets. And the Polish tennis player was able to get out of big trouble, losing the second set 1:6 and being beaten by the Ukrainian in the third set 2:3.

Long before the start of the clash with Svitolina, we reminded WPROST that the Pole did not have the best memories – the last ones – of playing against the tennis player from Ukraine. Świątek reached her only semi-final (before playing in Toronto) in Rome, where she lost to a Ukrainian tennis player at the WTA 1000 tournament.

Svitolina also put pressure on the Pole in Canada. The difference, however, was that Świątek was able to answer. And what stopped working at some point did not become an insurmountable problem for the Polish woman. On the contrary. From the above-mentioned break and the score to 2:3, Świątek won the next four games, closing the set and the match with the score 6:3, 1:6, 6:3.

After a very valuable victory and reaching the first final in the 2026 season (!), the Pole made an honest confession. Admitting how difficult the months are behind her. The most important thing, however, is that she did not stop believing in the success and validity of the work she was doing.

– It wasn’t an easy season, probably the hardest in my life… This week was really positive and inspiring for me. In a way, it shows that you have to keep going, no matter what, said the Pole.

Świątek will face Jelena Rybakina in the title match. Balance of matches against Kazakhstan? 12 matches and a very equal 6:6. Although the fact is that the Pole has a score to settle with Rybakina. The last two matches were won by the runner-up in the WTA ranking, who is already just behind Aryna Sabalenka. It seems that Kazashka will overtake the Belarusian in a few moments and jump into the leader’s seat.

When and where to watch the final? The match Iga Świątek – Jelena Rybakina will take place this night, i.e. from Thursday to Friday, not before midnight. Therefore, it should be assumed that the match can start at 0:00, but… just as well, you need to calculate some slight delay. Before the semi-final against Svitolina, the weather was a problem – rain delayed the start of the match by over an hour.
