Iga Świątek was mixed with mud. “They have a positive sample…”
The echoes around Iga Świątek and her confession about the doping mistake are still going on. The Polish tennis player was suspended, and Vladislav Savrda spoke on the matter.
The well-known Czech coach in the tennis world did not bite his tongue. Iga Świątek was suspended for a month, while the Czech coach’s player, Nikola Bartunkova, received a six-month suspension for a positive anti-doping test.
Strong criticism against Iga Świątek after revealing the truth
In such a case, Czech notices injustice and unequal treatment of those who are famous compared to those who are far beyond the top. It is worth noting, however, that the Czech woman, who also tested positive for trimetazidine, had two such failures, separated by one negative result. The situation is therefore much more complicated and ambiguous.
However, this did not prevent Svarda from pointing out inconsistencies, including: making decisions on suspensions, the International Tennis Integrity Agency. Of course, Świątek also got involved.
– They have a positive sample from August, then they publish a report that is basically withholding information from the public. They will say that she has personal problems and will arrange the sentence so that she can finish the season. Then she missed tournaments in China due to so-called personal problems and that was the end of it (…) At least it would be fair to measure by the same yardstick, regardless of whether it is the first player in the ranking or the 500th player. If they control it so massively and all players must inform where they can be contacted regarding anti-doping control, they should also measure it with the same standard and not try to hide cases that do not suit them – admitted the Czech coach, quoted by the website ceskenoviny.cz .
Iga Świątek admitted to the “blunder”. Suspension of a Polish woman for doping
On November 28, the Polish tennis player published a recording in which she admitted the reason for not appearing on world courts. Świątek explained that in September she was informed about the positive result of the anti-doping test. The cases concerned a sample from mid-August this year
Ultimately, after 2.5 months of trying, the Polish woman became dehydrated and unknowingly took an illegal substance contained in a contaminated batch of melatonin, which Świątek has been taking regularly for years. The tennis player was punished with a one-month suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, as announced in a special announcement.
– This is definitely something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. It took a lot of strength. Back to training when the whole situation generally broke my heart. There was a lot of crying and sleepless nights. The uncertainty was the worst. I didn’t know what was going to happen with my career. And I didn’t know how this situation would end, whether I would be able to play tennis at all next time (…) This situation hurts me very much, because all my life I wanted to have a career that would set an example for the next generation. Which will be fair in a sense, which will show that I have always been fair. It will show all the values that a top athlete should have. And I have the impression that this situation may disturb the image I have built over the years. So I hope you will understand what happened, you will understand how much I had no control over it. And that there was nothing I could have done to prevent this unfortunate situation from happening to me. I hope you will stay with me and support me, because it is extremely important to me, admitted the Polish tennis player via Instagram.
Let us recall that after the US Open, Świątek took a break until the WTA Finals in Riyadh, resigning from many tournaments, which caused the Pole to lose, among others, leading in the world ranking to Aryna Sabalenka. The Polish player finished 2024 as the runner-up in the WTA rankings.
