Iga Świątek returned from a long journey. Thriller finished with a knockout!

Iga Świątek

Iga Świątek was promoted to the third round of Wimbledon. The Polish woman, however, played a tough, interesting match with Cata McNally. Three sets finally decided about the decision.

Looking only through the prism of the WTA ranking, it would seem that Iga Świątek should without any problems play the US representative. Sport, and in particular tennis, has already managed to get used to its unpredictability. Especially in a situation where there are two well -known players on the court. And so you can describe a tennis relationship that connects Iga Świątek and Cata McNally.

Wimbledon: Iga Świątek with valuable success! Caty McNally defeated

Before the first round of the second round, the Polish woman argued that the American is an expert in the field of playing on a grassy surface. Both tennis players met many times in junior times, because they are peers. What’s more, in 2018 Świątek in a duet with McNALly reached for the triumph in the Grand Slam Roland Garros – we are talking about a doubles in the junior competition.

Of course, during the second round of Wimbledon 2025, there was no kindness. Although Świątek approached the competition as the number 4 of the latest WTA ranking, and McNally … 208, the difference was virtually imperceptible. Although it is hard not to get the impression that it was a clash of moments. Example? First party. From 4: 1 for Świątek, a relatively confidently played game, to 5: 7 to the detriment of the Polish woman – when from action to the action she gained more and more certainty.

After an hour of play and losing the opening set, Świątek stood against the wall. McNally seemed to know the ways to lead the Polish woman out of the comfort zone. In addition, errors on the Polish side of the net began to repeat, the American seemed more consistent. Tennis, however, has the fact that after a clearly losing moment, i.e. 1: 5 (from the state 4: 1 to 5: 7), nothing strange was that the second set began with … again 3: 0 for Christmas.

This time the Polish woman was not caught up in the rival. The American gave the impression of a bit late to the next strokes, as if she felt the hardships of competition from a very hard, first set. Effect? Świątek ended this installment with a 6: 2 break, thanks to which it got 1: 1 in the match, and in addition the Polish woman started the decisive installment from her service game. Which is beneficial in itself.

The third set began with a valid break for Świątki (2: 0). The Polish woman arranged the last straight, although she had to play solidly so as not to let the American into playing again, restoring hope for victory. However, she did it so consistently that the third set ended with a unilateral 6: 1 for a Polish woman and 2: 1 in the whole match.

Świątek endured this nerve test. In the third round the Polish opponent will be … another American Danielle Collins. So “an old friend” from a memorable, post-match mini-scandal, during the Olympic tournament in Paris (2024). Collins blamed at the time, accusing the opponent of even … being falsely polite.

Kamil Majchrzak in the third round. When and where to watch a Pole’s match?

The only Polish singling looks very good during this year’s Wimbledon. Kamil Majchrzak, in the absence of the injured Hubert Hurkacz, has already advanced to the third round of the tournament in London. A tennis player from Piotrków Trybunalski left Matteo Berrettini in the defeated field (five sets) and American Ethan Quinn (three sets).

Who will be a Pole’s rival on the way to the best “sixteen” tournament? Majchrzak will play with the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. Interestingly, the rival of a Polish tennis player in the first round eliminated the tournament “three” by German Sasha Zwieriew.

The clash Kamil Majchrzak – Arthur Rinderknech is scheduled for Friday (i.e. July 4) as the third match from 12:00 Polish time, on court No. 12 (PO Sierra – Bucsa and Rakhimova – Noskova).
