Iga Świątek made an honest confession. “Dad hid it from us.”

One of Iga Świątek’s most important projects off the court is a foundation named after her, which the tennis player established last year. The main goal of the project is to support young athletes and help them at the beginning of their journey.

Iga Świątek revealed her plan for the future

Iga Świątek admitted that the idea to create a foundation had already appeared, but due to the intense tennis calendar it was difficult to find the right moment to implement it.

— I am very glad that I finally established this foundation. This idea was created three years ago, but tennis life is so intense that sometimes there was simply no time for it. We have a scholarship, so there’s a lot going on. I hope that there will be more and more of these projects and that the foundation will develop, because I have the impression that this is my future. When I finish playing tennis in ten years, this foundation will be something I can be proud of, said the player in Natalia Szymańczyk’s podcast.

Later in the conversation, Iga Świątek admitted that the foundation’s activities also result from her own experiences from the times when she tried to get to the top. — Do you use this foundation to achieve things that you, for example, did not have? – asked the journalist. – Yes, that was the main idea – explained the tennis player.

Iga Świątek about the difficult beginnings of her career in Poland

Iga Świątek emphasized that the beginnings of her career were not easy at all. Reason? In the opinion of the tennis player, young players are often left without an appropriate support system, and many decisions fall on their parents. When asked what she missed most at the beginning of her journey, she replied that she had a little bit of everything.

— In Poland, we do not have any such system that we could follow. Maybe they are closely related to sports associations in such sports, but in tennis it is a bit like that, the parent has to figure out which path the child should follow, which coaches to work with, when to include general development classes, because all this requires private funds and the parent’s idea. Sometimes I have the impression that we may have missed someone we could ask for advice – said Iga Świątek.

— There was definitely a moment when there was a lack of money, but my dad hid it from us because my sister also used to play. I didn’t fully realize it at the time, she admitted.

Iga Świątek added in a conversation with Natalia Szymańczyk that for a long time she did not assume that she would achieve great success in tennis.

— I thought that if, for example, only Agnieszka Radwańska managed to do it, what is the probability that I will be the next one? I was more of a realist, she said.

Will Iga Świątek buy a house in Italy?

The tennis player also revealed that in the future she would like to buy a house outside Poland, but it is not that easy. — I have the impression that in order to buy such a property, I would have to actually go there, do research, spend at least a few days in the area. Last year I was in Bari and I was wondering about that area, but it’s hard to do it on the fly. People have been wondering about these things for years. But I also wondered whether Italy would be ideal, or perhaps Greece, for example? – confessed the tennis player.

One of the reasons Świątek dreams of his own place outside Poland is the need for more privacy. — It would be nice to have a place where I could go and have a little more privacy. Now, when I’m in Warsaw and I come back after tournaments, I don’t have the freedom to go anywhere for a coffee or a cake to a restaurant, because I’m being watched all the time, she explained.
