Iga Świątek like old times! Now the Pole is facing a great battle
Iga Świątek won in two sets against Diane Parry in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. The French didn’t have much to say in the clash with the Polish.
Iga Świątek’s form is really impressive. Thanks to beating the French, the Polish woman has just won her ninth match in a row. This series includes seven victories in the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, where Świątek won the title, and three victories in Cincinnati. In the USA, the Polish tennis player is defending the title won a year ago (2025).
WTA 1000 Cincinnati: Iga Świątek gave a tennis lesson to Diane Parry
The memorable series of 37 wins in a row (!) from the period when Świątek was the leader of the WTA rankings is still a bit short – but it is definitely worth noting the significant improvement in the Polish woman’s game. Bearing in mind what happened, among others, during the Roland Garros and Wimbledon Grand Slams, now it is a completely different face of the best Polish tennis player.
If this is mainly due to coach Francisco Rioga, then we can only applaud the Spaniard. The man most closely associated with being on Rafael Nadal’s staff – and for many years – after a short absence in Toronto, is present with his protege in Cincinnati. Needless to say, the Spaniard may have a lot of reasons to be satisfied.
As for the match itself, after the first set, which ended after 46 minutes of fighting, it seemed that Parry could actually scare Świątek a bit more. However, the Pole was consistent in her game. After winning 6:3 in the first set, in the second she “broke” her opponent much earlier. Two quick breaks, giving the score 4:1, also gave the Pole the comfort of playing. And even making up for one break, at 5:3, did not change what ultimately happened. Świątek closed the match with a return break (6:3), quickly eliminating any hopes for success for her opponent.
Parry plays eye-catching tennis, the Frenchwoman certainly has a wide range of possibilities, but for Świątek’s ability, it was definitely not enough. Needless to say, the Pole struggled less on the American court than in the third round against Maria Sakkari.
Another Polish opponent? This will become clear in Wednesday’s matches. Świątek will win from the pair of Jelena Rybakina and Diana Sznajder. Therefore, there may be… a premature repeat of the final in Toronto. Kazaszka is in very good shape, but Sznajder can also surprise. On the side of the defeated rivals, the Russian has in Cincinnati… Maja Chwalińska.
The Świątek match will certainly be played on Thursday (i.e. August 20). This will be the quarterfinal stage of the event immediately preceding the Grand Slam US Open.
Iga Świątek and all her championship titles
In her career so far, the Pole has won a total of 26 championship titles on courts almost all over the world.
Świątek won six Grand Slam titles, four times at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), once at the US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2025). To this should be added the prestigious triumph in the WTA Finals (2023).
In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments, respectively, in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023), Madrid (2024), Cincinnati (2025) and the latest – in Toronto (2026).
The list also includes WTA 500 competitions: Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022), Doha (2023) and Seoul (2025).
Plus a Polish tournament accent, WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).
As for Polish topics, it is impossible not to emphasize the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in the singles competition in Paris (2024). Świątek also won the Polish national team in the United Cup in Sydney (2026).
