Roland Garros: Iga Świątek in the semi -final! The Polish woman beat Elina Switolina

After the match Sabalenek – Zheng, two consecutive quarter -finals came to the Paris court. This time it was a Polish-Ukrainian duel. On the one hand, the defender of the title, i.e. Iga Świątek, called the “Queen of Paris” in recent years. On the other, Elina Switolina, a Ukrainian favorite of many local fans. A player from behind our eastern border in private life is a partner of Gael Monfils. Veteran of world courts, a record holder in terms of Grand Slam victories among players derived from France. Of course, the quarter -final husband appeared in the stands.

It is not, however, that Świątek is disliked, so you could talk about a really interesting, also supporter, duel. It is worth adding that Switolina in the fourth round managed to reverse the match with last year’s finalist, Jasmine Paolini. The Italian even had match balls, but ultimately she had to get around the taste in the context of promotion. A similar scenario was met by Świątek. The Polish woman did not have to face the prospect of match balls, but Jelena Rybakina was already 6: 1, 2: 0 on the scoreboard. But like Switolina, Świątek proved that she had a big heart to fight, winning this dramaturgy match.

What did Tuesday’s quarter -finals look like? Certainly in the first set, surprisingly easily for a Polish woman. Although the 6: 1 result is only an illusion. Gemy could last up to 10 minutes, and Świątek had to defend herself against breakthroughs, actually, from the very start. What Switolin did not use, she carefully saved a Polish woman on her side. Effect? Two breaks (3: 1 and 5: 1), which gave comfort from the start of the title defender. Let’s add that at least 6: 1, the set lasted 46 minutes. It shows how much happened.

It is worth noting the wind, heavily blowing in Paris, which we mentioned during the Sabalenki match with Zheng. Świątek and Switolina – especially on the site – had to take an amendment to this type of, difficult weather conditions. The ball received gusts, which had to be corrected on an ongoing basis, exceptionally strong on one of the side of the court.

However, Switolina is famous for its tenacity. The Ukrainian woman after a poor result of the first set, in the second, quite quickly took the lead 3: 1 with a break.

This best showed that Świątek must be on the end. The Polish woman managed to answer quickly, leading to 3: 3 first, and after 35 minutes it was 4: 4 – after games played at a faster pace.

Interestingly, Świątek repeated the situation from the match against Rybakin in the third set. First, the Polish woman came out of the blade and 4: 5, at her website, and then broke the opponent in the eleventh game (6: 5) and closed the meeting at 7: 5.

The victory of Świątek with Switolina is 26. Winning Polish women in a row at the courts in Paris. The fifth world -ranking tennis player is undefeated since edition 2022.

In addition, it is worth noting that for Świątek it is the second Grand Slam semi -final in the 2025 season. During the Australian Open, a few balls turned out to be weaker than the later winner of the tournament in Melbourne, Madison Keys.

This time the challenge will not be easier. The match of Świątek with Sabalenka promises to be delicious. It seems that this is a premature final in the single tournament. The semi -finals of the ladies tournament are scheduled for Thursday (i.e. June 5).
