Iga Świątek in a new version! The Polish woman finally discovered the secret

It cannot be denied that in Canada we can observe a completely different – more confident Iga Świątek. The Pole plays aggressively, but also patiently, respecting each subsequent point. This means that the rivals are under pressure from the Polish player, but they cannot count on easy points after the mistakes of the former leader of the WTA world ranking.

WTA 1000 Toronto: Iga Świątek talked about her strong transformation

Świątek defeated Diana Sznajder without any major problems in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto on Tuesday (August 11). The Russian was unable to compete equally with the favorite. However, the Pole showed that she is in good shape in Canada.

And rivals like Sznajder, if Świątek has a good day, cannot come close to success in clashes with the Polish tennis player.

It was interesting during the conference in Toronto, after the Polish woman’s success. Świątek answered the question about the level of patience, which has definitely improved from what could be observed, for example, at the beginning of this season.

– This was the goal from the very beginning, since I started training with Francisco. This period of Grand Slam tournaments in the summer and other important tournaments for me and playing on clay with all the chaos that usually happens there, sometimes doesn’t help. I didn’t even have enough peace in my head to constantly do what the coach expected of me. I have the impression that now it has become a habit and has become more natural. I definitely want to play like that, have that patience. I feel like last year I sometimes played a little too flat and too fast, making risky decisions. It’s more my game, so what I’m trying to do now is more my game. I feel that the work we are doing with Francisco is helping and I feel that the most stressful part of the season is behind us – admitted Świątek after winning over Sznajder and advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Let us add that this is the second semi-final for the Pole in the 2026 season. Earlier, Świątek reached the top four during the WTA 1000 event in Rome. On the local Italian clay, Elina Switolina blocked the Pole’s path to the final.

Who will Świątek play against in the final in Toronto? How could it be otherwise… Once again, the Pole’s opponent will be the highest-ranked tennis player from Ukraine in the WTA ranking. There will be an opportunity for a rematch. Świątek has already achieved one such success during the Canadian tournament. The Pole won against another Ukrainian – Marta Kostiuk – who eliminated her in the fourth round of Roland Garros 2026.

Świątek won six Grand Slam titles, four times at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), once at the US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2025). To this should be added the prestigious triumph in the WTA Finals (2023).

In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023), Madrid (2024) and Cincinnati (2025).

The list also includes WTA 500 competitions: Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022), Doha (2023) and Seoul (2025).

Plus a Polish tournament accent, WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).

As for Polish topics, it is impossible not to emphasize the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in the singles competition in Paris (2024). Świątek also won the Polish national team in the United Cup in Sydney (2026).
