Iga Świątek hits the Polish realities. “It’s Really Happening”
Iga Świątek honestly describes the realities of training and problems with infrastructure. In the background there is an idea for your own solutions in the future.
Iga Świątek has entered a new stage of her career. The most important change is the start of cooperation with experienced coach Francisco Roig. The Pole is preparing for further sports challenges in Majorca.
It was this trip that put the tennis player back in the spotlight. This time, however, it is not about the results on the court, but about the training realities in our country.
Iga Świątek reveals training problems in Poland
The winner of six Grand Slam tournaments openly admits that “Poland is less and less a place for her everyday work.”
– It’s not like I can spend my free time freely in Poland. I come back most often to meet my family. Often, when I’m training hard, I’m too tired to meet friends, admitted Iga Świątek. – I think that I will come back to Poland more often for 4-5 days off in order to fulfill some sponsorship obligations, and I will train more abroad – she added.
The key problem is infrastructure. – We have nice clay courts in Warsaw where I can always play, but in total I only use them three days a year – she explained.
Iga Świątek talks honestly about training in Poland
The assessment of hard courts was more severe. – When it comes to hard courts, there is literally one court in Warsaw that has a good surface. The rest of the courts have not been renovated for years. The surfaces are completely worn out, said the former WTA ranking leader.
There is also the problem of accessibility. Even as one of the best players in the world, it’s not easy. – Sometimes it’s hard even for me to get a court, because I don’t want to push out other customers who have already booked it – admitted Iga Świątek in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy. – If you want to get, for example, four hours of court a day, as I was training now in Majorca, it is impossible in Warsaw – she clarified.
Will Iga Świątek create her own training facility in Poland?
As it turns out, The thought of building her own facility in our country appears in the Polish woman’s mind. – I think about it all the time. It would probably be a smaller thing, but it is based first on the purchase of land, then a business plan – she explained, suggesting that in the future she may create her own training facilities.
For now, however, Poland remains only a stop between subsequent trips for Iga Świątek. – It’s so gray in November or December that it’s sometimes difficult to find the energy to work. It was nicer to train in Majorca in April, where I got up with the sun, not the rain, she concluded.
