Iga Świątek experienced real hell! The border was very close
Iga Świątek won against Sara Bejlek and advanced to the third round of the tournament in Paris. On the courts named after However, the weather conditions at Roland Garros are very difficult.
It is no secret that the Grand Slam event in Paris greeted the participants with an exceptionally hot aura. At temperatures above 30 degrees, Iga Świątek and Sara Bejlek appeared on the central court at exactly 12:00 on Wednesday (i.e. May 27).
The Pole and the Czech had to compete not only with the one on the other side of the net, but also to deal with weather conditions that were downright hellish.
Roland Garros 2026: Terrible conditions in Paris. Iga Świątek keeps playing!
Although the Pole won the first set 6:2, the game itself lasted almost 50 minutes. Why? Bejlek was one of the biggest “traps” in the RG 2026 tournament ladder. Although the Czech was not seeded, she came to the capital of Paris as number 35 in the world. Świątek’s rival could not be denied the will to fight. However, both tennis players had huge problems, a bit paradoxical, because with their own serves.
Effect? Bejlek won the first service game at 2:4 in the second set. Previously, the Czech had been broken six times. Świątek also couldn’t find the right consistency in her service, allowing her opponent to break four times throughout the match. Overall, although there were many long and interesting exchanges, it was not a top-class match in terms of quality.
Although there were also moments of brilliance.
The picture with the mentioned score of 2:4 from the Czech’s perspective in the second set was telling. Bejlek was first broken by Świątek (3:4), then again she was unable to defend her serve and lost the game on her own serve… to zero (3:5). What’s more, the last point was a double service error by the Czech.
The Pole did not let go of such a reserve, ending the match with a score of 6:2, 6:3 and entering the third round of RG 2026. For Świątek, it was win number 20 in the 2026 season.
The Pole’s next rival will be Magda Linette.
Linette sensationally beat Świątek during their last meeting in Miami (WTA 1000). That defeat also turned out to be the last match in which Wim Fissette was the coach of the best Polish tennis player.
You can read more about the Polish battle, which will take place next Friday (May 29), in a separate text in WPROST.
RG 2026 matches are shown on Eurosport, on a total of four channels of the station. Additionally, the online competition is available via the HBO Max platform. The competition in the main tournament is scheduled from May 24 to June 7.
