Iga Świątek did not expect this! Great news has arrived for the Polish woman

Iga Świątek

Iga Świątek will have a slightly easier path to a big result at the US Open 2026. A very dangerous opponent dropped out of part of the tournament ladder.

This is a purely theoretical approach, knowing what rules govern Grand Slam tournaments. The best example of this season (i.e. 2026) is Maja Chwalińska. The Pole made it through the three-stage qualifications in Paris to finally reach the grand final of Roland Garros 2026. For this reason, each tennis player must be careful.

US Open 2026: A sensation in New York! This is good news for Iga Świątek

Such a case is what happened in Belincy Bencic’s match. The Swiss player in New York was seeded number 12. High, considering the part of the US Open 2026 ladder that included Iga Świątek. The Pole is the tournament’s number eight.

However, it turned out that in the competition with Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan, the favorite could not cope with the challenge. Thus, Świątek will have – theoretically – an easier path to a big result in New York.

However, the Pole will have to be careful in a possible clash with Putintseva. The Kazakh was able to eliminate the Pole during a Grand Slam tournament in the past, more specifically in London Wimbledon (2024).

Świątek will play his second round match of the US Open 2026 on Thursday (i.e. September 3). The Pole’s rival in New York will be Argentine Nadia Podoroska.

Iga Świątek and all her championship titles

In her career so far, the Pole has won a total of 26 championship titles on courts almost all over the world.

Świątek won six Grand Slam titles, four times at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), once at the US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2025). To this should be added the prestigious triumph in the WTA Finals (2023).

In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments, respectively, in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023), Madrid (2024), Cincinnati (2025) and the latest – in Toronto (2026).

The list also includes WTA 500 competitions: Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022), Doha (2023) and Seoul (2025).

Plus a Polish tournament accent, WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).

As for Polish topics, it is impossible not to emphasize the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in the singles competition in Paris (2024). Świątek also won the Polish national team in the United Cup in Sydney (2026).
