Iga Światek didn’t have an easy time in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Cincinnati. Mirra Andreyeva showed good tennis. However, the Pole didn’t give up, made up for the loss and took the win.
Iga Świątek returned to tennis after a short break. After defeating Warwora Graczowa and Marta Kostjuk, she faced the first duel in her career with the Russian Mirra Andreyeva. The talented young rival set difficult conditions for the Pole, forcing the world’s top tennis player to play three sets. In the end, however, it was the Pole who was happy with the victory 4:6, 6:3, 7:5.

Raszynianka opened the match and did it confidently. Later, however, to the surprise of the fans, she had to watch for several minutes as Andreeva took the next games, who broke the Pole for the first time in the third set. She led to a 3:1 lead, but then Świątek started chasing the result. However, the leader of the ranking was unable to make a return break. Even if the younger player made mistakes, they most often did so on the Pole’s serve, which was not so costly given the advantage. Świątek led to a score of 4:5, while in the next game the serve belonged to Andreeva. The Pole had two break points, but her opponent defended herself with aces. An ace also decided her victory in the game 6:4, because she used the second set point.
The second set belonged to Iga Świątek. The Pole had the lead from the start, which she built consistently. She quickly broke the Russian, who was only able to beat the more experienced opponent in the fourth game. Świątek did not let herself be broken on her own serve. What’s more, she was close to another break, but once again the good serve of the 17-year-old from Krasnoyarsk proved helpful. Świątek, however, made sure to win on her serve. By winning 6:3, she led to the decisive third set.
Game number three began with Andreyeva leading the serve. Świątek equalized after a moment, and also a few minutes later, when the Russian again established a modest advantage. Similar situations occurred in the next parts of the set, which only heralded a fierce fight for advancement. Both tennis players were unable to break through… until. Andreyeva could not withstand the pressure, making mistakes in the 11th game. Świątek took advantage of this by breaking her opponent. With the score at 6:5, the Pole was serving for the semifinal. The Russian fought fiercely to extend the match, but the leader of the WTA ranking used the first match point.
