Iga Świątek couldn’t believe her eyes. Shocking pictures during the Polish team’s match

Iga Świątek

Iga Świątek lost to Jelena Rybakina after a three-set battle during the WTA Finals in Riyadh. For Kazaszko, it was the first victory against a Pole in 2025.

Looking at the pre-tournament scores, the match with Jelena Rybakina was supposed to be a relatively “easy” one for Iga Świątek. Of course, we are not talking about the sporting class of her rival, but mainly about the kind of patent that the Pole had against Kazazka in the current season.

WTA Finals: Iga Świątek lost to Jelena Rybakina. Shock on the court!

The WTA ranking runner-up won against Rybakina four times in the ending season. It started in the United Cup, in the Poland-Kazakhstan clash, then at the tournaments in Doha, the Grand Slam battle on the courts. Roland Garros and Cincinnati.

With an unfavorable balance of 0:4, Monday’s match of the group named after Serena Williams, the Kazakh started by… losing the opening set against the Pole. Świątek had a quick break, because already in Rybakina’s first service game, she improved with two of her own games and made it 3-0. She did not relinquish this advantage until the end of the set, winning 6:3. It must be admitted that it was a really solid set performed by Świątek.

Unfortunately, the next hour of the match showed how unpredictable tennis is. This time, Rybakina started from 3:0 and closed the set at 6:1. What’s worse, however, is that the Pole started making unforced errors and showing considerable nervousness on the court. There were many moments when Świątek was angry at her impotence in relation to what she received from the other side of the net.

Effect? The scenario of the third game was even worse, because while in the second game it ended with 1:6, in the decisive one the Pole lost… 0:6. It was absolute helplessness on the part of the second-ranked player in the world ranking.

As many as 42 unforced errors, in addition to a scenario that could be observed in the Polish woman’s other defeats. Although there were not many of them in the 2025 season, in most cases there were surprising extremes in the level of play shown by Świątek.

It must also be admitted that Rybakina has been looking very good in recent weeks. The Kazashka won a place at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, and then confirms that she deserves a place during the competition in Saudi Arabia. And who knows, perhaps the winner of Wimbledon in 2022 will fight for the final triumph.

Świątek will play the American Amanda Anisimova in the last group match – next Wednesday, November 5.
