Australian Open: Who will Iga Świątek play against? Here are the draw results
On Thursday morning, looking at Polish watches, the tournament brackets were drawn for the tournament in Melbourne. Świątek, as the runner-up in the WTA rankings, did not do too badly. The first challenge for the Pole will be a match with Katerina Sinakova. The Czech is a Grand Slam champion, but mainly in doubles. Sinakova won, among others: gold medals at the Games in Tokyo (2020) and Paris (2024).
Sinakova is also the leader of the WTA doubles rankings. So why isn’t the draw for Świątek the worst? The Czech is doing much worse in the singles game. Looking at the rankings, Sinakova is in 46th place. Additionally, Świątek did quite well, looking at the overall layout of the ladder. There is certainly no shortage of interesting names to be added, but that is the charm of Grand Slam tournaments.
A clash with Aryna Sabalenka, the leader of the world list? Only in the final, which results from the seeding of both tennis players, i.e. “number one” from Mińsk and “number two” from Raszyn near Warsaw.
How were the remaining Polish representatives drawn? Magdalena Fręch will play with Russian Polina Kudermietowa. Maja Chwalińska, lucky qualifier, with German Jule Niemeier. The opponent of the most experienced Polish tennis player in the field, semi-finalist of the Australian Open 2023 – Magda Linette – will be Moyuka Uchijima from Japan.
What is the situation like for men? Hubert Hurkacz will play against the dangerous Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Kamil Majchrzak, who successfully passed the qualifications, will have to wait until the end of the qualifications to find out his place in the tournament ladder.
