Iceland for the weekend. You will see these places and you will come back for more

And if you get on the plane, close your eyes and after four hours to move to the land of fire and ice, elves, woolen sweaters, volcanoes, glaciers and breathtaking waterfalls? It is all at your fingertips and you do not have to take a vacation at all.
Although two days, of course, is not enough to get to know Iceland well – because we are talking about it – this is the perfect direction to City Break, which you can extend to the next two -week (or longer) adventure on the occasion of the next visit.
There is no other such country. With such harsh and at the same time amazing nature. The Gullfoss waterfall, at which the woolen hat is blowing, and at the same time you want to stand there as long as possible and admire the piling up, majestically falling water. Or Kerið crater, in which the volcanic lake is located. Once upon a time, Bjork, probably the most famous artist from Reykjavík, played there and at the same time.
City Break in Iceland. What to see?
From mid -April, Polish Airlines LOT launched a direct connection from the Chopin Airport in Warsaw to the main airport of Iceland – Keflavík (about 45 minutes away from the capital). Cruises take place four times a week.
If you have chosen City Break is below a plan that (necessarily rent a car!) You can realize and fall in love with Iceland like many Poles. Because – what is worth knowing – the island is inhabited by the largest – in proportion – Polonia in the world. At the beginning of last year, 22,394 Poles live there, which is about 32.1 percent of all immigrants and about 5.6 percent of the entire island’s population (389 444 people, as of January 1, 2025 – ed.).
Their largest clusters are in Reykjavík, Keflavík and Hafnarfjörður. In fact – Polish language among employees can be heard in hotels, restaurants, cafes, tourist attractions or shops.
So what to see over the weekend?
In Reykjavík necessarily Lutheran Hallgrimskirkja church – a monumental building designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, which was inspired by Icelandic nature – especially basalt columns formed after the lava cooling. This is one of the highest buildings in Iceland – it is 74.5 meters high. You can see it from almost anywhere in the capital.
Then go after Old Town – charming, with low buildings and colorful houses that you can’t not immortalize in the pictures.
Even more impressed Harp – Concert room and conference center located next to the waterfront. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in Iceland and an icon of contemporary architecture. The facade is a geometric mesh of glass panels reflecting light in a spectacular way, referring to the shapes of basalt crystals.
We cannot miss one of the most famous works of public art in the capital. Sólfar (Sun Voyager) designed by Jón Gunnar Árnason, an Icelandic artist. A sculpture that looks like a skeleton of a wicker Viking boat is not a literal performance of the ship – it is more fantasy about discovering and traveling towards the sun. Since 1990 it has been standing on the banks of the bay of Faxaflói, overlooking the Esja mountains.
In Reykjavík, also go to Town Hall (Ráðhús Reykjavíkur) located just above Tjörnin – A picturesque lake in the city center, which freezes and attracts skaters in winter.
It is also worth looking at a small one Parliament building (Alþingi) on Austurvöllur Squareright next to the Dómekirkjan cathedral and numerous cafes.
Lunch? Necessarily in the restaurant in Old port. It’s best to sit by the window and admire the picturesque views.
At the end of the first day, go to one of the geothermal SPA. Sky Lagoon This is one of the newer and most luxurious places of relaxation in Iceland – a hot lagoon with a view of the ocean, breathtaking infinity pool and a water bar. It is also worth giving in to the ritual of seven steps – your body will be smooth as never, I guarantee!
Nature in Iceland. Golden Absolute Circle must see
Let the second day be marked by the nature of Iceland. Unless you need a car in the capital, it will be necessary for today’s sightseeing. We will focus on Golden circle – The most popular on the island of the trip.
Visit – Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park – a place inscribed on the UNESCO list, located at the interface of Tectonic plates of Eurasia and North America – you can see the gaps and cracks in the Earth. Here in 930 Alþingi was created – the oldest parliament in the world.
Then go to the geothermal area in the valley Haukadalur. Geysir and Strokkur are waiting for you. The first one explodes rarely, but Strokkur is an active geyser exploding every 5-10 minutes. He can throw water up to 20-30 meters up.
Must See is also Gullfoss (golden waterfall). One of the most beautiful Iceland waterfalls, two -level, powerful and loud – the Hvítá river drops from a height of 32 m to the gorge. Sometimes a rainbow can be seen in the sun. Be sure to put on a hat, because the wind can be really strong!
Bonus – if you need time – it will be mentioned earlier Kerið – Volcanic crater with a turquoise lake.
At night, don’t forget look out – If you succeed, you can be sure that you will want to go back to Iceland for a long time.
