Hubert Hurkacz’s painful injury at Wimbledon. The Pole’s first statement
The second round match at Wimbledon ended in a terrible way for Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole retired in the competition with Arthur Fils.
As for the Polish representatives, at Wimbledon we are only watching Iga Świątek. Among the women, Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette were eliminated in the first round, and in the men’s tournament we can no longer follow Hubert Hurkacz’s performances. His farewell to the competition is, however, a secondary matter. Now the most important thing is his health, because the Olympic Games in Paris are approaching with great strides, where our best tennis player is to take part in as many as three events.
Hurkacz spoke out after the first tests
Let us recall that during the second round match of Wimbledon with Arthur Fils, many things did not go according to plan for the Wrocław player. After losing the first two sets, he won the third set, and in the fourth, a tiebreak was needed to determine the winner. In one of the actions, Hurkacz rushed to reach the ball and win a point. He paid for it with a knee injury. With the score at 9:8 for Flis, he was unable to continue the match, so he gave up the match. The Frenchman advanced to the next round of the competition in unusual circumstances.
Later, according to Łukasz Kubot’s report in the Polsat studio, Hurkacz quickly went to the hospital for tests. The seventh-ranked ATP tennis player gave new information at night and thanked everyone for their support.
“After injuring my knee today at Wimbledon, my first medical tests are behind me. I will now need some time to recover and do further medical tests back home in Poland. My team and I will provide more detailed information as soon as possible. Thank you all for your support during and after the match! It means a lot to me!” Hubert Hurkacz wrote on Instastories.
Hurkacz has to wait for another good result
Before Wimbledon, everyone was eagerly awaiting Hurkacz’s performance. All because the Pole’s performance this year gave hope that he would break the Grand Slam slump. For example, during the competition in Halle, he played brilliantly, where he reached the final. He will have to wait for great results in Grand Slam events, but right now his health is the most important thing.
