Hubert Hurkacz with key success! A beautiful gesture for children from Poland

Returning to the game after a serious injury is certainly not easy for Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole started 2026 with success, in the form of the triumph of the Polish national team in the United Cup tournament. Moreover, the tennis player from Wrocław was able to keep the white and red team afloat in the face of Iga Świątek’s defeats.

However, as it turned out, these were bad beginnings. Over time, Hurkacz began to play on his own account, not for the representative team. A series of several painful defeats forced the player, who was in 6th place in the ATP rankings years ago, to quickly change something.

At the end of April this year, the Polish tennis player decided to change his coach. Frenchman Gilles Cervara became Hurkacz’s new coach. Did this automatically bring victory to the Pole? No, but that’s not how tennis reality works either. However, Hurkacz had to start appearing not only at ATP events, but also go down a level, trying his hand at less prestigious ITF competitions. First of all, the Pole needed and still needs regular play.

Hurkacz ended the season on clay courts by advancing to the second round at the facilities named after. Roland Garros in Paris. The Wrocław player almost outplayed Frances Tiafoe. Ultimately, however, it was the American who prevailed in the French capital, although the US representative did not make a great career in this year’s RG.

Hurkacz lost his first attempt of the season on the courts in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Where another Pole, Kamil Majchrzak, ultimately triumphed, “Hubi” disappointed again. And a defeat at the very start of the event meant that Hurkacz dropped out of the top 100 of the ATP rankings. I must admit, it was a sad picture – after many years of being in this group – not to mention the best times and a certain position in the TOP 10 in the world.

Therefore, the achievement that the Pole already has in his grasp after a good opening of the ATP 500 tournament in Halle turned out to be a valuable breakthrough. On German grass, Hurkacz outplayed Andrei Rublev. The Russian is currently player number 13 on the world lists.

– I’m happy with this first victory in Halle. This is very valuable to me. Especially since this is the period I’m in where I haven’t had many victories. However, we work every day and try to improve our shots, tactics and play on the court. I think today’s match was a good step forward, so I’m very happy with this win. Additionally, it was fantastic to see the Hubi Cup kids supporting me at today’s match. This always adds motivation. It’s nice to see and inspire younger people. The win against Rublev gave Hurkacz promotion to the so-called live ATP rankings to 93rd place.

As for the presence of children from the Hubi Cup mentioned by the tennis player, they are indeed the winners of the under-12 tournament held at the turn of May and June in Wrocław.

Interestingly, a total of 55 girls and 63 boys from all over Poland took part in the tournament. The four best singles players were the guests of Hurkacz as a reward – they could see the world of professional tennis up close: training, matches on grass courts, the background of a major tournament and the atmosphere of a major live event.
