Hubert Hurkacz will not play with Iga Świątek. A surprising decision by the Pole

The World Tennis League will be held on December 19-22 in Abu Dhabi. Hubert Hurkacz was supposed to play in Team Eagles, together with Iga Świątek. However, it turned out that the Wrocław resident would ultimately leave the event, which had no impact on the ranking or the prospects for the next season.

World Tennis League: Hubert Hurkacz officially resigned

The Pole, together with the new training staff, obviously wants to prepare as best as possible for the next, more important challenges. The World Tennis League officially announced that Hurkacz will be replaced by Kazakh Aleksander Shevchenko. The team from Świątki will also feature Argentinian Stefanos Tsitsipas and Spanish Paula Badosa.

The tournament will also feature, among others: Jasmine Paolini, Jelena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka – the leader of the WTA ranking, after dethroning Świątek.

The teams will play in a round robin format, and the results will be recorded in a common table. The two best teams with the highest number of games won will advance to the final. Each match will consist of five smaller matches: men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.

Fans will be able to watch Hurkacz and Świątek in action as part of one team during the next tennis challenge, namely the United Cup in Australia.

United Cup 2025. When exactly will the Polish national team play?

Poland will play in the United Cup 2025 group competition in Sydney. The national team will face Norway (December 30) and the Czech Republic (January 1). The competition will take place in women’s singles, men’s singles and mixed doubles.

In the case of the history of the United Cup, Polish tennis is doing quite well. Two finals have been played so far, and one of them – last year’s (2023/24) – featured the Polish national team. Ultimately, Świątek and Hurkacz lost to the German team, represented by Angelika Kerber (lost to Świątek), Alex Zwieriew (won to Hurkacz) and doubles Laura Siegemund / Alexander Zwieriew (defeated by Świątek/Hurkacz duo). In the premiere edition, the USA crushed Italy 4-0 in the final.

It is already known that there will be no changes in the composition of the Polish national team. The following people will fight for success in United Cup 2025: Iga Świątek, Alicja Rosolska, Maja Chwalińska, Kamil Majchrzak and Jan Zieliński. In this case, there should be no further changes.
