Hubert Hurkacz injured, and the Olympics are just around the corner. This information is not optimistic
Hubert Hurkacz had to forfeit his match with Arthur Flis in the second round of Wimbledon. The Pole suffered a knee injury. The new information is not optimistic.
Hubert Hurkacz was hoping for a good result at Wimbledon. The Pole feels good on the London grass courts. Three years ago, he even reached the semi-finals of the competition, which is still his best result in terms of Grand Slam appearances. His adventure with the prestigious competition in 2024 ended at the second round.
Hubert Hurkacz was taken to hospital after defeat at Wimbledon
The Pole faced Arthur Flis, being the favourite in the match. The Frenchman did not want to give up easily and, to the surprise of the fans, won the first two sets. In the third, “Hubi” started to make up for the losses. The 6:2 win gave great hope. In the fourth set, a tie-break was needed to make up for the splash. This ultimately ended unfortunately for the Pole. The Pole threw himself at the ball and unfortunately injured his knee. With the score at 9:8 for Flis, he was unable to continue the match, so he gave up the match. The Frenchman advanced to the next round of the competition in unusual circumstances.
Hurkacz reportedly told his staff right after the match that “something snapped” in his knee. A bit more information was provided in the Polsat Sport studio after the Pole’s match. Łukasz Kubot revealed that the country’s best tennis player was taken to hospital for observation. It is not known how serious the situation is, although such news does not inspire optimism.
— Very sad news about Hubert, especially since we are in the middle of the season and the Olympics are approaching. We can only hope that the tests will not be that bad and our representative will quickly return to training on the courts, said Kubot.
