Hubert Hurkacz as in his best years! The Pole’s show at Wimbledon
Hubert Hurkacz advanced to the third round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam. In Wednesday’s (July 1) match, the Pole defeated Austrian Sebastian Ofner in three sets.
It is worth recalling that Hubert Hurkacz is a 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist.
However, the tennis player from Wrocław has bittersweet memories of the London tournament. On the one hand, it was a real success from five (!) years ago, but on the other hand, a terrible injury suffered on London grass, which greatly complicated the career of the Polish player. This took place in 2024.

Hurkacz came to London as a tennis player ranked 96th in the world. Considering that in the past (not so distant), the Pole was the sixth racket in the ATP ranking, this is a completely new reality. However, the Wroclaw native lost most of the 2025 season for a quiet recovery.
And by winning against Sebastian Ofner in London, for the first time in two years (!) the Pole was in the third round of a Grand Slam tournament.
What was the match between the Pole and the Austrian like? In the case of Hurkacz, you could see calm and confidence in his plays. It is worth appreciating the offensive attitude of the Wrocław player, who consistently took advantage of key moments. The most even game was in the first part, which was finally decided after a tie-break. Although Ofner was pressing, each time he faced a confident serve from his opponent and some really impressive and effective moves by Hurkacz.
Additionally, the Polish tennis player did not lose a single set in two matches. And appropriate control of strength when playing matches in the Grand Slam format – i.e. up to three wins – is also important.
It is worth recalling that the Pole has already beaten Casper Ruud, seeded number 11, during Wimbledon. This opens up the tournament ladder a bit for Hurkacz and gives him a chance for an even better result. Who will be the rival of the Wroclaw native in the third round? American Tommy Paul. The US tennis player is seeded number 21 during this year’s competition in London.
