An identity card is a document that every citizen over 18 years of age should have. Without an ID card, you will not be able to handle any matters at the office, open a bank account, take up a job or travel abroad. The ID card is the most important document confirming Polish identity and citizenship, so it should be guarded like the apple of your eye. Fortunately, today you can have many documents online, including e-ID.

How often do you need to change your ID?

An ID card is a document that is not issued once for life, but has a specific validity period. Adults receive an ID card for 10 years, but if important changes occur during this time (e.g. a woman gets married and changes her surname), a new document must be obtained.

What data does the ID card contain?

The ID card contains:

  • name or names and surname,

  • family name,

  • their parents’ names,

  • date and place of birth,

  • sex,

  • photo,

  • signature,

  • PESEL number,

  • citizenship

What does e-ID contain?

The e-ID also contains the following data:

  • series and number,

  • release date,

  • expiration date,

  • who gave him away

  • number CAN

  • repeated data and ID data saved in electronic form (except for the CAN number),

  • fingerprints,

  • ICAO application that allows you to check in automatically when you cross country borders,

  • space for a qualified certificate of electronic signature,

  • certificates

Where to apply for an ID card?

An application for an ID card can be submitted online or in person at the office. It should be noted, however, that the entire procedure cannot be completed online, because when submitting an application online, you must report to the office and provide your fingerprints and signature specimen. These data will be collected at the office and placed in your ID card.

You have 30 days to visit the office from submitting your application online. After this date, the application will not be processed. The proof is issued within 30 days of completing the missing data.
