How much should you put in the wedding “envelope”? One thing decides
Poles indicated the most optimal amount when it comes to a wedding gift. About how much should be thrown into the so-called envelopes are decided by one issue.
August is slowly coming to an end. For years, it has been the most popular month in which weddings are organized, which is hardly surprising due to the favorable weather and – this is very important for superstitious people – the letter “r” in the name.
For those organizing a wedding, this is a huge expense, as the invitees are well aware of as they wonder how much to put into the proverbial “envelope”. The report “Wedding gifts of Poles. Trends 2026”, prepared by UCE RESEARCH and Briju, shows that the relationship with the bride and groom is important for Poles in this context.
How much should you put in the wedding “envelope”?
In the case of a witness or immediate family, the most frequently indicated range is PLN 751-1,000 (24.9%). A large group, less than 19 percent. however, she mentioned the range from PLN 1,001 to PLN 1,500. The range of PLN 501-750 (13.7%) and PLN 201-500 (13.5%) was less frequently indicated.
The situation is slightly different when it comes to acquaintances, friends or extended family. In this case, the most frequently mentioned range was PLN 201-500 (27.1%). Slightly less, 24.1 percent. indicated a range from PLN 501 to PLN 750. The most frequently indicated range was that of a witness or immediate family, in this case chosen by 19.1%. respondents.
– From an economic point of view, a gift from a distant guest serves primarily as an expense related to participation in the celebration. In the case of a witness or immediate family, the envelope can be perceived in a much broader sense – e.g. as a gift, a share in the wedding costs and additional financial support for the bride and groom. Therefore, the most popular range moves from PLN 201-500 to PLN 751-1000, and the median from PLN 501-750 to PLN 751-1000 – comments Piotr Biela, co-author of the report from Brij.
Limit PLN 750
The authors of the report point out that the clear limit is PLN 750. In the case of friends and extended family, a total of 55.8 percent. respondents gave a value up to this sum. However, from a witness or immediate family, 62.3 percent respondents expect at least PLN 751. The difference in the share of indications from this level is 25.6 percentage points.
– The results allow us to treat PLN 750 as a clear analytical limit, but not as a rigid rate applicable on the market. In the case of a larger group of guests, this amount more often closes the scope of a typical gift, and in the immediate environment it rather opens it up. You should also remember that the limit results from the ranges adopted in the survey. Therefore, this is not the market price of the gift, but a point around which the responses of both groups clearly diverge – explains Piotr Biela.
The study was carried out by UCE RESEARCH and Briju using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) method. Online surveys were conducted on a nationwide sample of 1,023 adult Poles aged 18-80.
