How much gold does the National Bank of Poland have? The latest NBP data
The NBP reduced gold reserves by 5,000 ounces, but their value increased by over PLN 7.7 billion. This is the result of the situation on the global ore market.
The National Bank of Poland has published the latest data on the state of its reserves. At the end of July 2025, there were 16 million 568 thousand in the treasury. ounces of gold. This means a decrease of 5,000 ounces compared to June, i.e. over 150 kilograms of ore.
Less gold
Despite the reduction of the amount of gold, its value has increased clearly. Calculated, the golden reserves reached a level higher by over PLN 7.7 billion than a month earlier. The value of gold in the possession of the NBP was almost EUR 47.85 billion and nearly 54.79 billion dollars. These data show that market prices are key to the final valuation of reserves, not the amount of ore.
This is the first situation in a long time in which gold resources at the NBP have decreased. Until now, the central bank has systematically increased the state of reserves. Particularly dynamic growth took place in 2019, when the supplies were almost doubled. In 2023, a record 130 tonnes was purchased, and in 2024 Poland overtook in terms of the size of reserves, including Great Britain, approaching the level of the European Central Bank. A year later – according to the data – Polish reserves have already exceeded the ECB resources.
Economic credibility
The change in July 2025 is surprising because in previous years the NBP was considered one of the leaders of gold shopping in Europe. The president of Central Bank Adam Glapiński has repeatedly emphasized that gold strengthens the country’s economic credibility and is a strategic resource. It is stored both in the treasures in Poland, as well as in New York and London.
Global demand for gold is still growing. In 2024, central banks acquired a total of over 1000 tons of this raw material, treating it as protection against economic and geopolitical uncertainty. Although in July the NBP reduced its reserves by 5,000. ounces, their market valuation reached a historically high level.
