Homeowners ignore this responsibility. They may pay dearly for it
In Poland, according to the Construction Law Act, property owners and managers are obliged to regularly inspect chimneys.
Building regulations require regular inspection of installations. This obligation is not just a formality – proper maintenance of chimney flues is crucial for the safety of residents and users of buildings. Pursuant to the provisions of the Act of July 7, 1994, regular inspection of chimneys is required at least once a year. Article 62 of the Act clearly states that reviews must be carried out by qualified specialists. The cost of a chimney sweeper’s visit usually ranges from PLN 100 to PLN 150, but in larger cities it can reach up to PLN 200.
Why is a chimney inspection so important?
Regular cleaning and inspection of chimneys significantly reduces the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Chimneys of furnaces burning solid fuels, such as wood or coal, should be cleaned at least four times a year. Gas and oil furnaces require cleaning twice a year. Neglecting these duties may have serious consequences – both financial and health.
Failure to comply with the regulations may result in a fine of PLN 500. Moreover, in the event of a fire caused by a neglected chimney, there is a high risk that the insurance company will refuse to pay compensation. Such situations may generate significant financial losses for property owners.
Chimney inspection – the key to safety
Professional chimney maintenance is not only a legal requirement, but also an investment in the safety of residents. It is worth remembering that regular cleaning of chimney flues minimizes the risk of dangerous situations such as carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.
Failure to carry out an inspection may have far-reaching consequences for both household members and property managers.
