Holiday traps. The bank reveals the most common mistakes of tourists
PKO BP warns: It is easy to fall victim to fraud during the holidays. See how to protect your money and data.
PKO Bank Polski reminds that a holiday carefree should not mean loss of vigilance, especially in financial matters. In the latest announcement, the bank calls for caution on the Internet, warning about popular threats lurking at tourists.
Watch out for reservations
The bank pays attention to the dangers of online reservations. Clicking “Buy now” without exact verification of the page may result in loss of data or money. PKO BP advises to use only trusted reservation platforms, check the website address and safety certificate. As the bank emphasizes – a padlock symbol is not enough. It is worth clicking the icon at the address bar and make sure for whom the certificate was issued.
Another threat is false messages from hotels and carriers informing about alleged problems with payment or booking. The purpose of such activities is to extort login data or payment cards. The bank reminds: do not make payments outside the official website and do not click suspicious links.
Data from the payment card
PKO BP also emphasizes that data from the payment card – name, number and CVV2 code – are enough to make online transactions. Therefore, the card should always remain in the hands of the owner. A hotel or store employee is required to approach the payment terminal. Similarly with ID card – it must not be stopped, it can only be shown.
Caution should also be exercised when using public Wi-Fi networks. It is best to avoid logging in to online banking in such places. If you already do it – log out right after the session is over.
The bank also reminds of available safety tools. In the IKO application and IPKO service, you can activate transactions and temporarily block the card – especially useful, e.g. on the beach. These are simple solutions that can protect against a serious loss.
