Airlines have spoken out about the 2026 holiday season. Passengers have reasons to be concerned about the war in the Middle East.

Despite the months-long war in the Middle East, European airlines reassure us that there will be no shortage of fuel for planes. Carriers operating in Poland ensure that supplies are secured at least for the coming weeks, and airports are not at risk of shortages.

– There is no threat in the supply of fuel at European airports. Our suppliers say they have warehouses secured until August. This means that there will be no problems with fuel in the summer – emphasized Michał Kaczmarzyk, president of the airline in “DGP”. Buzz belonging to Ryanair. He added that if carriers cancel connections, it is usually for economic reasons, not because they cannot refuel the planes.

Holiday flights 2026 at risk? Airlines have spoken out

Recently, Lufthansa has limited some routes, including suspending: flights from several Polish cities to Munich and Frankfurt. Officially, it was associated with the reorganization of the regional company Lufthansa CityLine and the effects of the tense situation in the Middle East.

He also remains confident about the continuity of supplies Enter Air. As Andrzej Kobielski, vice-president of the company, points out, European Union countries maintain strategic fuel reserves sufficient for up to three months in the event of a suspension of supplies. Although some oil was sent to Europe from the Persian Gulf countries, the market has the opportunity to supplement the shortages from other directions.

Polish FLIGHT it also does not indicate a threat to fuel supplies. However, the airlines continue to suspend connections to some Middle Eastern cities, including Tel Aviv and Beirut, due to security issues.

There are also assurances from the website Orlenthe main supplier of aviation fuel in Poland. “Orlen diversifies supply directions and flexibly manages the supply chain, therefore the availability of aviation fuel for customers remains secured. At the same time, supplies of raw material needed for the production of aviation fuel are not based on routes running through the Strait of Hormuz – they are carried out via a different route, mainly based on pipeline systems,” we read in the statement.

Aviation fuel prices and holiday flights 2026

Today, fuel prices turn out to be a much bigger problem for the industry. – None of the carriers assumed that a tonne of aviation fuel would increase to USD 1,500-1,600 per tonne. In recent years, it fluctuated between USD 600 and 800 – says Michał Kaczmarzyk.

It is expensive fuel that is increasingly forcing airlines to cut their flight networks. For now, however, the increases have not had a significant impact on ticket prices. Experts indicate that the demand for travel has weakened due to the uncertainty related to the geopolitical situation. Many passengers fear both flight cancellations and further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

Additionally, it lasts competition between low-cost airlines, mainly Ryanair and Wizz Air, which limits the possibility of larger price increases. Ryanair is in a relatively comfortable situation because it has previously contracted most of the fuel at much lower rates.
