“He’s heading in the right direction.” The president evaluates the famous city
– This award is a commitment at the beginning of my journey, but the very fact that Gdynia is a modern city and is heading in the right direction leaves no doubt – said Aleksandra Kosiorek, mayor of Gdynia, to “Wprost”.
The editors of “Wprost” presented the ShEO Awards statuettes for the sixth time in history, this time in Gdańsk. Local entrepreneurs, activists, politicians and representatives of the world of science were honored. Aleksandra Kosiorek received an award in the Mayor of the City of the Future category – Gdynia.
“A lot to do in Gdynia”
Kosiorek took up the position in May this year. In the second round she received over 62 percent. votes. Apart from politics, she also works for women’s rights, the rights of excluded people and civil rights. He perfectly diagnoses social problems and does everything to solve them.
We asked her about her feelings about city management over the last six months.
– It is a very difficult task, but also very satisfying. We have a lot to do. Today, Gdynia needs such a refresh, a new quality, and I work every day to make such things happen in the city – she replied.
“I have a lot of disagreement with injustice”
The ShEO winner drew attention to her education and professional experience. Before taking office, Aleksandra Kosiorek worked as a legal advisor.
– I have a lot of disagreement with injustice and this is actually the source of the social work I undertook quite a long time ago. As a legal advisor, I was able to use my legal knowledge to defend the weaker ones.
“I will consider it a success of my term”
How does Gdynia compare to Gdańsk and Sopot?
– I have the impression that Gdańsk has answered the question of what kind of city it wants to be in the future. Sopot also already knows the answer. And in Gdynia we are still working on it. I will consider it a success of my term of office if the inhabitants of Gdynia know where this city is heading and accept this vision.
Open’er, Culinary Świętojańska and sailing
Gdynia is famous for the Open’er Festival, but not only that. The president talked about other attractions that could attract tourists and investors to the city. Among the culinary attractions, she indicated the largest cyclical street food festival in northern Poland – Culinary Świętojańska.
– We are working very hard to ensure that sailing returns to Gdynia with full force. The project of a new Gdynia marina and a new Gdynia boatswain’s office is on the table. These are the challenges we are currently working on, she added.
