Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Wear a T-Shirt on a Plane: Flight Attendant Follows Her Mom’s Advice
Choosing what to wear on a plane is not just about comfort, but also safety. A flight attendant advises what to avoid. The reason may surprise you.
When we travel by plane, we try to dress comfortably first and foremost. However, it turns out that one of the most popular items of clothing, regardless of gender, can be a bad choice.
What to Wear on a Plane? Flight Attendant’s Advice
Andrea Fischbach, who is a cabin crew member for American Airlines, has seen all kinds of outfits on board flights over the years. The flight attendant noted all the worst things to wear while traveling — like tight clothes, high heels, or too much jewelry and accessories.
Andrea explained that ultimately, they’re just inconvenient and can lead to a more thorough security check, so it’s best to go for a minimalist look when traveling to another country.
Danger in an emergency
However, she warned that you should never just wear a plain T-shirt for the sake of it. This could have some pretty nasty consequences if something goes wrong mid-air and the inflatable slide is deployed.
“I traveled a lot growing up, and one of the rules my mom taught me to follow, and I still follow to this day, is to always cover up,” Andrea says.
Covering your body is important during evacuation from an aircraft, for example when an emergency slide is deployed. Contact between skin and material during a rapid descent can lead to abrasions and injuries. The same applies to covering your legs – it is best to choose long trousers.
It is also important to wear loose clothing. Tight clothing can restrict blood flow if there is swelling.
And while everyone hopes to get to their destination without any problems, the most cautious can follow Andrea’s advice. We wrote more about the risk of a blood clot while traveling here.
