Here nature does not disappoint. Mushrooms grow to power before the holidays

Grzyby

Although most mushroom pickers are looking forward to the turn of August and September, everything indicates that in 2025 nature decided to surprise. Warm nights, rainfall and sufficient moisture made the first mushrooms appear in the forests in June. For enthusiasts of forest walks with a basket, this is great news – the fungal season has just begun.

Mushrooms like peace, moisture and warmth – these are three basic conditions that must be met so that mushroom pickers can count on successful harvest. This year’s weather allowed for these criteria to meet earlier. Two or three rainy days, followed by warm nights and sunny mornings, is enough for the forest mulch to begin to give birth to the first prosperous porcini mushrooms or mushrooms.

Although for many it is an unusual time for mushroom picking, users of the Facebook group “Mushrooming – Silesia” have been sharing photos of prosperous specimens for several weeks. Shared posts not only confirm the early start of the season, but are also a kind of signpost – they show where it is worth going so as not to return from the forest with an empty basket.

Where to mushrooms? Varies with potential

Particularly recommended places include around Gliwice. The Łabędzka forest has already given the collectors in June, including goats and chanterelles. Also, the areas around Jaworzno are popular – you can even come across a nice canopy.

It is impossible not to mention the Beskids, which have been considered a real paradise for mushroom pickers for years. Both the Żywiec and Silesian Beskids provide favorable conditions for the development of fungi. Humidity, shadow and moderate tourist traffic mean that porcini mushrooms, chanterelles or mushrooms grow there alone. Wandering along the Beskid trails with a wicker basket in the hand can be not only effective, but also relaxing.

Slightly less obvious, but also noteworthy are the area around the Błędowska Desert. Although sandy areas are not associated with the place of mushrooms, nearby forests still surprise with the richness of the undergrowth. The same applies to Częstochowa – the areas there can also satisfy forest treasure enthusiasts.

What mushrooms can we find in the forest now?

Although this is only the beginning of the season, several edible species have already appeared in the Silesian forests. The most common are:

  • boletus – considered a royal species of Polish forests, especially valued for its taste,
  • mushrooms – easy to recognize, eagerly collected by beginners and experienced mushroom pickers,
  • chanterelles – intensively yellow and fragrant, perfect for scrambled eggs and sauces,
  • Koźlars – appear near the birches, with a light brown hat and a slim shaft,
  • Kanie – also known as Kanie, are magnificent mushrooms with umbrella hats, which after frying resemble pork chop.

According to Internet users, the largest harvest can now be achieved after the rain, early in the morning, when the forests are still calm and empty.

“It is always best to go out early, still from the sun. Then there is the best chance that we will find something really fresh and we will not miss the places where others were already” – wrote one of the mushroom pickers on the local group.

Watch out for poisonous doubles!

Although the emotions associated with mushroom picking can suffer, you must not forget about caution. Some poisonous species look almost identical to edible. This applies especially to young specimens that have not yet developed fully. An example would be a breeze, often confused with a kania or a dove.

For safety, it is worth using mobile applications that recognize mushrooms or take an atlas with you. If we still have doubts – it’s best to leave a specimen in the forest.
