Here is the ski jumping team for the inauguration of the World Cup. Legend out of the lineup!
The coach of the Polish national ski jumping team, Thomas Thurnbichler, announced the names of the ski jumpers who will inaugurate the 2024/25 season in the World Cup.
The first competition starts on November 22. Who did Thomas Thurnbichler choose? There is one strong surprise in the Polish ski jumping team. Namely, Piotr Żyła is missing from those appointed.
In Lillehammer, the following players will fight for points at the opening of the World Cup: Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Paweł Wąsek and Maciej Kot.
The Polish national ski jumping team is without Piotr Żyła. Why?
The absence of Żyła in the A team is a big surprise. The Polish Ski Association decided not to wait for the emerging speculations, quoting the coach’s words as to why such a decision regarding an experienced ski jumper.
– Piotr Żyła has improved in the last two months after the surgery. Physically, he is almost back to the top. However, the most important thing for him now is to stay at home, train calmly, stabilize his jumps and prepare to compete in Wisła – admitted Thurnbichler.
It is worth recalling that in the previous season, which was very unsuccessful for Polish ski jumping, Aleksander Zniszczoł unexpectedly became the leader of the national team. The above-mentioned Żyła, as well as Stoch and Kubacki, jumped significantly below the level to which ski jumping fans have been accustomed over the years.
It is no secret that PZN is counting on a generational change in the Polish national team. However, this cannot be achieved for now, because there is a clear lack of young successors to experienced masters.
