Hens don’t lay. Many breeders make this mistake

Kury

If we want the hens to lay good eggs, we need to provide feed with good ingredients. Breeders pay attention to what is best not to be given to them.

As we wrote recently, breeding even a few hens makes sense if we care not so much about getting rich, but about having our own eggs from a reliable source. If we want the hens to lay good eggs, we need to provide feed with good ingredients and from a good source.

As the website wiesciroliczne.pl notes, a healthy diet for chickens is based on two pillars: diversity and precise balance. The menu must include:

  • Protein: The foundation of egg production and body regeneration. You will find them in legumes, soybean meal and fish meal.

  • Energy (Carbohydrates): Provided by high-quality grains such as corn, wheat and barley.

  • Healthy fats: Essential for shiny feathers and vitamin absorption. Their great sources are sunflower seeds and linseed.

  • Vitamins and minerals: Key for hard shells (calcium, phosphorus) and general immunity. It is worth enriching your diet with fresh fruit, vegetables and vitamin D.

What not to feed chickens?

Poultry farmers indicate what it is better not to give chickens to eat. – You definitely can’t feed your hens with processed products. Unfortunately, bread is one of those, because it contains yeast and other various improvers – emphasizes Marcin Majnert, a broiler breeder from Boguszyn (Greater Poland Voivodeship), quoted by the portal.

The healthiest option, although I know it’s hard to convince some people, is complete feed. Some people want to feed poultry using traditional methods, e.g. potatoes. If they are salted, this is not necessarily the case – this applies to both the broiler and the laying hens – he adds.

Majnert points out that a chicken is a creature that will eat anything, and the ingredients of its food are in the egg. Therefore, it is worth being aware and careful about what we feed them.
