A resident of Garwolin in the Mazovian province took in a young wild boar. In doing so, he broke the law and could have harmed the animal in the long run.

On Thursday, July 18, after 7 p.m., district police officers from Garwolin intervened in connection with an unusual report from concerned residents of one of the housing estates. A man was allegedly keeping a wild boar in one of the apartments. Although the report sounded unbelievable, the police went to check it out. To their surprise, there was indeed a small piglet at the given address.

Man kept a wild boar in his apartment building. He even gave it a name

The man who was there told the police that he had found the animal in the forest. It seemed lonely, so he felt sorry for it and brought it to his apartment. It turned out that he had also managed to name the new animal – Bohunek. The district police officers notified the veterinarian through the officer on duty, who, due to the threat of ASF, transferred the animal for observation.

A man who kept a small boar in his apartment must expect to be held liable for a misdemeanor in connection with violating the provisions of the Hunting Law. It is also worth being aware that it is possible to negatively affect the development of a forest creature. According to information from the State Forests, almost all reported cases of finding an abandoned young animal are false alarms. Such animals should not be approached, touched, and under no circumstances taken from the forest.

Why you shouldn’t take wild boars out of the forest

Leaving young animals alone, such as hares, roe deer or wild boars, is not a lack of care for their offspring on the part of the parents, but quite the opposite – a sign of concern for their existence. This is a survival strategy developed by animals: the young animal does not emit an intense smell, so predators cannot detect it, it moves little and has camouflage coloring, which provides it with protection. The constant presence of adult animals nearby endangers the young and attracts the attention of predators.
