Holidays attract both experienced climbing enthusiasts and casual walkers to the Tatra Mountains. There are people among them who behave inappropriately. A few days ago, one of the guides showed what tourists leave behind. After his video, Internet users did not spare comments.

A recording with an important message appeared on the website of the Tatra National Park. Guide Tomasz Zając shows that tourists leave towers made of stones on the routes. The man found one of these while walking along the trail from Kasprowy Wierch towards Świnica, just below the peak of the Beskid Mountains. He warns that the structures can be a source of problems. “Please do not build such structures,” he appeals.
It turns out that although the rocks look innocent, moving them interferes with the lives of small organisms and destroys their important habitats. “In the case of mass transfer of rocks, the natural arrangement of debris is disturbed and the appearance of the natural mountain landscape is changed,” we read in the TPN post. Park representatives also explain that mounds make sense where they mark a road, and there is no shortage of marked trails in the Tatra Mountains.
Leaving a mound on the trail is not as serious an offense as the recent antics of tourists, including: bathing in Tatra ponds despite prohibitions. The topic of stones left behind, although not so controversial, also divides Internet users.

Many comments quickly appeared under the TPN recording published both on Facebook and Instagram. It can be concluded that some people understand the problem well, others ignore it completely. “I don’t see any harm. A much more serious interference is the construction of trails, because unlike these mounds, it is a permanent interference”, “Soon there will be a ban on walking in this national park. Is there anything you can do there?”
Others agree with the TPN’s appeal, writing: “And that’s a good thing. It’s stupid with these mounds” or “Start giving high fines for it, and they will not want to build a mound. Appeals do nothing.
