Viswashkumar Ramesh. He was the only one to survive the biggest plane crash of 2025. After many months of recovery, he gave answers to difficult questions to the media. “Talking about the plane is very painful,” he commented.

The case concerns the plane crash of Air India 171. The plane crashed on June 12, just after take-off from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, heading towards London. There were 241 passengers on board at the time. Not only those in the air suffered, but also those on the ground – the plane hit a hotel for doctors. Only one man miraculously survived on board that day. The Briton of Indian origin was in hospital for a long time and still cannot recover from the trauma. He recently gave his first interview to journalists from BBC News and news.sky.com. He revealed that although he is happy that he survived, he suffers.

Viswashkumar Ramesh on life after the disaster

Although 5 months have passed since the disaster, 40-year-old Viswashkumar Ramesh still cannot recover. Today he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), has serious physical injuries, and is unable to drive or work.

The Briton witnessed the death of hundreds of people, including his own brother, who was on board with him, which adds additional drama to his situation. “I am the only survivor and I still don’t believe it. It’s a miracle,” Ramesh said in an interview with the media.

The man said, among other things, that now more than ever he prefers solitude at his home in Leicester, British. “I sit alone in my room, I don’t talk to my wife or my four-year-old son. I just like to be alone,” he said. He also mentioned that talking about past events is still too painful for him. “I think all night long, I suffer mentally. Every day is painful for the whole family,” he revealed.

This place saved the passenger

How did the passenger survive? Viswashkumar Ramesh occupied window seat number 11A on the plane. Many experts analyzed how much this location had an impact on the positive outcome for the man. He miraculously escaped from the burning plane through a hole in the fuselage.

Footage appeared online showing a man walking away from the victims of the tragedy with seemingly superficial injuries, while smoke billowed in the background.

The lines are on the case

Air India paid compensation to the 40-year-old. However, he admits that the compensation of £21,500 will not cover all the necessary costs. A preliminary report into the crash, released in July by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, reported that fuel flow to the engines was cut off just seconds after takeoff. However, the investigation into this matter is still ongoing.
