He invested in a heat pump and received a bill for PLN 7,000. zloty. He made a crucial mistake

As many as 7 thousand PLN was paid for electricity by a resident of Mazovia who decided to invest in a modern air heat pump. All because of one mistake.

Heat pumps are becoming more and more popular in Poland. However, it must be remembered that their improper use can be quite costly.

Lost on the heat pump. Such mistakes should not be made

The legartis.pl website describes the example of Mr. Marek from the Masovian Voivodeship, whose electricity bill for one heating season amounted to as much as PLN 7,000. zloty. Why so many? A resident of Mazovia invested in a modern air heat pump for his 150 sq m house. The system was supposed to be cheap to operate and environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, the man forgot to properly adjust the device’s parameters – the pump operated in high-temperature mode, generating unnecessarily high electricity consumption. Additionally, there was a lack of periodic inspections and maintenance, which resulted in a reduction in the pump’s efficiency.

The website cites the opinions of experts who point out that incorrectly configured heat pump settings can increase energy consumption by up to 30%. In the case described, this meant that instead of the expected 3.5 thousand kWh per year, consumption reached almost 7 thousand. kWh, which, given the current energy price (approximately PLN 1.20/kWh), generated huge costs.

To avoid a situation similar to the one that happened to Mr. Marek, it is worth placing, among others: to combine a heat pump with a photovoltaic installation, which can almost completely reduce electricity bills, as well as to use a two-zone tariff – choosing a night tariff (G12) allows you to reduce electricity costs by several percent.

The most common mistakes made when using heat pumps include: incorrect configuration of the heating curve (it is crucial to adjust the heating water temperature to actual needs), or lack of maintenance (regular cleaning of filters and checking the technical condition of the pump allows you to avoid performance drops). The portal also draws attention to the insufficient insulation of the building – even the most effective heat pump will not be able to heat the house, which loses a lot of heat through the walls, roof or windows.
