He conquered 14 peaks in less than 30 hours. Famous Pole breaks another record

The famous ultramarathon mountain runner has broken the record again. This time, he conquered 14 peaks in 29 hours and 45 minutes. Roman Ficek completed his challenge in August.

“The record has been improved by almost 8 hours. It was an unsupported run. The odometer showed 80 km and 10,000 m. Up. I am terribly tired and hungry. We are returning home safe and sound” – wrote Roman Ficek, known for his many sports achievements, on his Facebook page. Now the man has conquered 14 peaks that are part of the Slovak Great Crown of the Tatras.

Roman Ficek broke another record

The Great Crown of the Tatras includes peaks such as Gerlach, Łomnica, Lodowy Szczyt, Durny Szczyt, Wysoka, Kiezmarski Szczyt, Kończysta, Baranie Rogi, Rysy, Krywań, Staroleśny Szczyt, Ganek. Sławkowski Szczyt, Pośrednia Grań. Roman Ficek visited all of them in record time. How did he do it? Of course, by running and walking – this time, exceptionally, it did not end with just running. This is what ultra mountain marathons are all about. Although for many people it is mainly about having fun and a challenge, for Mr. Roman it is also about overcoming himself, traversing well-known routes in the best possible time.

Roman Ficek commented on his achievement, among others, in an interview with Polsat News reporters. “It was a new challenge for me, a combination of fast climbing with walking and running. Each record is a bit of strength and endurance,” he revealed.

It is known that in less than 30 hours the man covered about 81 km. “There was 10 thousand meters of elevation, so you could say that it is as if you climbed Babia Góra 10 times from the bottom to the top,” he described in an interview with Polsat. He also reported that during the challenge he slept about three hours on the first night, and not at all on the second.

The Pole’s exploits command respect

Although the Pole has broken a new record, it is not the biggest challenge he has behind him. As he himself informed, “he has already done longer and more difficult routes”. The man has, among others, the first ever run through the Carpathians, the route of which was 2,300 km long and 150 thousand meters of elevation gain – he did it in 39 days and 11 hours. He is also the record holder of the Main Beskid Trail.

This profile is followed by over 21 thousand people. After the last challenge, internet users, as usual, were eager to congratulate him on his success. “No Romek! A real piece of work!”, “Huge congratulations”, “I am very impressed” – these are just some of the hundreds of comments that appeared under the post on social media.
