He complained about the “horror receipt” at the fish fry. He didn’t predict the ending
For some people, holiday “horror receipts” are entertainment comparable to autumn mushroom picking. Sometimes, however, criticism goes too far, as one of our clients recently discovered.
We hear more and more about “horror receipts” every year. We like to complain, and we especially enjoy criticizing greedy entrepreneurs. If a restaurateur charges a high price for frozen fish or tries to cheat on the bill, we have no mercy for him. However, sometimes it is worth making sure before we criticize something hastily.
“Paragon of Horror” did not captivate Internet users
A customer of the “Okoń” fry shop in Pasłęk found out about this. “A receipt of horror on the way to the seaside. That’s how much we paid at the famous Okoń restaurant located in Pasłęk near the ring road. PLN 170 and PLN 190 per kilogram – I’ve never seen that before in my life. I thought you had a bad amount of money,” he wrote.
There were nearly 1,400 comments under the above message. However, Internet users did not join the outraged tourist, but sided with the fry shop. “What a horror it is when a kilogram of smoked mackerel costs PLN 52 in a store,” they asked. They also advised checking prices before placing an order and asked sarcastically whether the menu was kept secret.
The restaurateur explains the high prices of fish
The manager of the fry shop also commented on the matter in an interview with “Fakt”. Mrs. Ewa Borowska explained that the high price was not caused by a summer price increase, but by the market situation. – I think this is mainly due to the fact that there are fewer and fewer fish. Supply interruptions are becoming more and more frequent. Some species cannot be purchased because fishing bans apply or they are simply not available in wholesalers. This all translates into prices, she explained patiently.
She pointed out that in “Okoń” some fish is served fresh, but some is frozen. – Today, shock freezing is standard. Thanks to this method, the fish do not dry out and retain their freshness and properties, she emphasized. She added that the costs did not only concern the products themselves.
– Fish are expensive. People who buy them regularly know this very well. It costs raw materials, but someone also has to pay the warehouse workers and transport. We buy smoked shrimps wholesale for PLN 170 per kilogram. How long should we sell them for to maintain the premises, employees, etc.? – she asked.
