Hard landing for Poles after the Olympics. There has not been such a result for 11 years!
Only Piotr Żyła and Kamil Stoch managed to get through Friday’s (February 27) qualifications for the World Cup competition on the Kulm ski jumping hill. This is a disastrous result for Poles.
Stephan Embacher won the qualification for Saturday’s ski flying World Cup competition on the Kulm hill in Bad Mitterndorf.
Unfortunately, only two Poles can be moderately satisfied – Piotr Żyła and Kamil Stoch. These are the ones you will be able to watch in the competition. However, the following people lost in the qualifications: Dawid Kubacki, Paweł Wąsek and Klemens Joniak.
Disastrous return of ski jumpers after the Olympics. Dawid Kubacki’s nightmare
The Austrian performance, it must be admitted, quickly brought back to earth all those fans who could have been satisfied after the Winter Olympics 2026. Of course, the target event, the most important in the four-year period, were the Olympics on the ski jumping hill in Predazzo, Italy. And from there, Poland brought a total of three medals – two individual medals from Kacper Tomasiak – and from the duet competition, by Tomasiak and Paweł Wąsek.
However, the Polish representatives did not rely on Olympic optimism. Suffice it to say that the 2026 Winter Olympics medalist – Paweł Wąsek – jumped only 185.5 meters. Which ultimately gave me place number 41, i.e…. the first place without qualifying for the competition.
Kubacki’s performance was terrible. The experienced jumper recorded an attempt of 169 meters, where the top 20-25 competitors were able to land 200 m abroad without any problems. The Pole took 48th place in Friday’s qualifications. Of the qualifying competitors, not including the disqualified ones, only three competitors were worse than Kubacki.
The competition on Saturday (February 28) will feature Kamil Stoch – 30th place with a score of 196.5 m – and Piotr Żyła – 16th place, 208.5 m. It is difficult to be overly optimistic about what the Poles can achieve in Saturday’s World Cup competition.
Interestingly, the result of Friday’s qualifications was the worst result for Poles in the World Cup in… 11 years. Such alarming statistics were provided by the invaluable Adam Bucholz from Skijumping.pl. Żyła was one of the lucky two then and now.
Kacper Tomasiak was not in the A team for the Austrian competition. The leader of the Polish national team is preparing to compete at the upcoming Nordic Skiing World Championships. These will last from March 2 to 8 in Lillehammer, Norway.
Saturday’s competition in Bad Mitterndorf is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. The trial series will start an hour earlier.
