Nearly half of Poles keep old mobile phones at home – according to Eurostat data. However, only a few people decide to recycle, and many of us are still not aware that we should not throw used electronics into regular garbage.

As the latest Eurostat data proves, we are poor at recycling old electronics and most often decide to store them at home. It turns out that almost half of Poles keep old mobile phones in drawers. We are no different from Europeans in this respect. Data quoted by telepolis.pl show that the European average is 49 percent, while among Poles it is 48 percent.

The situation is slightly better when it comes to old laptops and tablets. These are found in every third Polish house (the European average is 34%). We store old desktop computers much less often. Only 16% keep them at home. Poles and we do slightly better here than Europeans (19%).

Data from the European Statistical Office show that only 12 percent Poles recycle old phones and smartphones (the European average is 10%). The situation is even worse in the case of tablets and laptops (9 percent, and the European average is 10 percent). The best result was recorded in the case of desktop computers, with 13% recycling. Poles and Europeans.

Do not throw away electronic waste

Please remember that used electronics should not be thrown away with regular garbage. It should be taken to special Selective Municipal Waste Collection Points (PSZOK). Such points organize electronic waste collection in many different ways. You can bring used electronic and electrical equipment, old batteries, light sources, etc. directly to their premises. Many cities have mobile collection points (cars parked at specific locations and hours). It also often happens that electronic waste collections are organized in towns on the occasion of various types of festivals, picnics and other events.

Although old electronic equipment does not pose a health hazard in everyday life, as waste it becomes very dangerous. Electronic waste contains numerous harmful chemicals.
