Warsaw will have a new ticket system. After thirty years, changes in the way of payment for public transport have been preparing.

Traveling around Warsaw will be easier. In 2027, the ticket system applicable for thirty years will change. Passengers will receive, among others New portal, application, central system and travel planner. The city will also have to order the production of 13 thousand. payments recording devices for travel. Transactions made on new devices will be postponed, i.e. settled after one day. “Thanks to this, we will avoid the situation that something did not work, e.g. internet communication broke off,” writes Wyborcza.pl.

Changes in Warsaw public transport

Warsaw residents and tourists must prepare for a real revolution in the sale of ZTM tickets. In two years, passengers will be able to buy tickets that will automatically sign up on a payment device, for example a credit card or smartwatch. A similar system is already successful in Wrocław. This does not mean, however, that city cards or paper tickets will completely disappear. “Tickets with QR code and a Warsaw plastic card will still be used – this is a nod to people accustomed to more traditional forms,” explains the deputy president of the Capital City of Warsaw. Warsaw Tomasz Mencina.

It takes time for full implementation

The Polish Mint became the contractor who will prepare and implement the system. Although the installation of new devices will start in 2027, their assembly will last up to two years. “Such a huge project requires precise planning, programming, design and tests. All this so that after its launch everything works flawlessly,” explains the director of ZTM Warsaw Katarzyna Strzegowska. The screens for buying tickets will be installed in 2.5 thousand vehicles and at all metro stations.

The new system is to be a solution for passengers with a problem with unsuccessful payments. Ticket transactions will be settled over time, so we will not have a unpleasant surprise on a bus or tram.
