Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie

Today, after 19 years of waiting, the building of the Museum of Modern Art will open. Initially, the facility will not charge for tickets.

More than two weeks of celebrations will take place in the new headquarters of the Museum of Modern Art at Plac Defilad in Warsaw. From October 25 to November 10, as many as 100 different cultural events will be held in the newly opened facility. Warsaw residents and tourists can for the first time see the interior of the famous museum, which has been waiting for 19 years. During the opening program, no fees will be charged for admission tickets. However, the main exhibition will only open in February 2025.

Opening of MSN in Warsaw

There has never been a place like this in the capital. Today’s opening of the Museum of Modern Art may be the most important cultural event this year. As the mayor of Warsaw emphasized, this is a historic moment for the city. “We will have a world-class place to promote Polish culture and modern art, which is very popular,” said Rafał Trzaskowski at yesterday’s press meeting. Dozens of artistic shows are planned for the opening day, and then for the first seventeen days of the facility’s operation, entry will be completely free (only the cinema museum will remain charged).

Opening of the main exhibition in February

During this time, you will only be able to take part in shows, concerts and workshops prepared for this occasion – you will have to wait until February next year for the main exhibition. “There will be over 100 events, you will see performances, the first works of art by Magdalena Abakanowicz and Cecilie Vicune. We show only works of art by women because now there is such a turn, there is more appreciation and attention is paid to women’s art, which was in the shadow for many decades,” said Tomasz Fudala, curator of the Museum of Modern Art, in the Morning of Polish Radio RDC.

However, MSN is not only an institution and not only a tourist attraction, but above all a meeting place for the inhabitants of the capital. Warsaw residents will be able to spend time here not only at numerous exhibitions, but also in cafes, the green forum and the adjacent glass ground floor, which have been made available as a relaxation zone. The revitalization of the area at MSN is one of many projects focused on restoring greenery in the Śródmieście area.
