Google Maps with a new feature. The police will lose out on this
Google Maps continues to evolve with new features. The latest change allows users to report police patrols and other road hazards.
Google Maps has been one of the most popular navigation tools for years. In recent years, they have gained many new functions, such as reporting road incidents, traffic jams or speed camera locations. Now it’s time for another innovation – the ability to report the presence of police patrols.
This novelty is a response to the needs of drivers who want to avoid unpleasant surprises on the road. Thanks to it, Google Maps is gaining an advantage over other road applications, such as Waze or Yanosik, by offering increasingly comprehensive service in one place.
Police? Notify other drivers
Reporting to the police on Google Maps has replaced the previous “speed cameras” category. This can be problematic, especially in countries where speed cameras are widely used and their location is not always marked. Now users will receive one notification called “police”, which can mean both a patrol measuring speed and a policeman directing traffic.
Drivers who are used to separating these categories may feel some discomfort. Especially since in some countries knowing the location of fixed speed cameras is crucial to avoid fines for minor speeding violations.
New Google Maps feature in practice. How does it work?
The new feature works based on user reports. While driving, you can easily report the presence of a police patrol or other road hazard, such as a stopped vehicle, roadworks or an accident.
Interestingly, the ability to report road incidents is the result of Google taking over the popular Waze application. Thanks to it, in recent years Google Maps has been enriched with functions such as warning about traffic jams, obstructions or stopped vehicles in the lane.
